In the eighteenth Century Benedict Arnold was used to a lavish lifestyle and borrowed heavily to maintain it. Arnold was described as “Money is this man's God, and to get enough of it he would sacrifice his country”. His father was a successful businessman. When the Americans declared Independence, Arnold decided there was a great deal of money to be made giving the British key information about the American defenses.

Arnold was a difficult personality, extremely ambitious and jealous, making many enemies, and getting into troubles wherever he went in the United States, Britain, or Canada.

In 1778, General George Washington made one of the worst decisions of his career, appointing Arnold as military governor of the rich, politically divided Philadelphia. No one could have been less qualified for the position. Arnold had amply demonstrated his tendency to become embroiled in disputes, as well as his lack of political sense. Above all, he needed tact, patience, and fairness in dealing with a people deeply marked by months of enemy occupation.

Arnold was eventually discovered but escaped to the British lines before he could be hung as a traitor. His young wife was a British spy. Later in life Arnold created an uproar with a series of bad business deals and petty lawsuits.

Sound like Trump? Trump is more effective at being a traitor.

The Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) prohibits any foreign national from contributing, donating or spending funds in connection with any federal, state, or local election in the United States, either directly or indirectly. It is also unlawful to help foreign nationals violate that ban or to solicit, receive or accept contributions or donations from them. Persons who knowingly and willfully engage in these activities may be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.

In the twenty-first century evidence has been recently uncovered that the Russians under the dictatorship of Putin have attacked the most important feature of the United States of America democracy. The right to fair and open elections. Russia used the internet, one of the ten greatest inventions of mankind (most invented by the USA) to alter and attempt to destroy our democracy. They had the assistance of Donald Trump and his political organization. Almost all of Trump’s political organization, from his manager to his son have been indicted or have lied to federal investigators.

Trump is about to be indicted. His attorney, Michael Cohen, recently indicated that Trump authorized an illegal meeting with Russians and key personnel in Trump’s political organization in Trump tower in June 2016.

Cohens claim is confirmed with there were three telephone calls made or received before the Russian meeting by Trump’s son, two to the Russians in which Trump Jr. does not remember what was discussed. The middle telephone call was to a blocked number (in which Trump has) lasting four minutes which Trump Jr. does not remember who or what was discussed. Around this time Trump indicated that he had a major announcement on dirt on Clinton in a few days. The calls were undoubtedly Trump telling his son to proceed with the illegal meeting with the Russians.

Mueller probably has information on the second call connecting Trump Jr. with Trump.  

Donald Trump to save his own lavish lifestyle has sold his soul to the corrupt state of Russia ruled by a ruthless dictator. History has repeated itself four centuries later on a grander more dangerous scale.
